The Heinkel He-162A-2, often known as the “Volksjäger” or “People’s Fighter”, was one of the most ambitious and desperate jet fighter projects of the Second World War.

Designed and produced in an incredibly short timeframe, the He-162 was intended to be a lightweight, fast interceptor that could be built quickly using minimal strategic materials.

Powered by a single BMW 003 turbojet mounted above the fuselage, the He-162A-2 delivered impressive speed and performance for its size.

Its distinctive layout, including the high-mounted engine and twin tail fins, made it one of the most recognisable early jet aircraft ever produced.

The A-2 variant was armed with two 20mm MG 151/20 cannons, offering improved reliability over earlier configurations.

Despite its advanced design, the aircraft was challenging to fly and saw only limited operational use in the final months of the war.

For modellers, the He-162A-2 offers a unique and eye-catching subject.

Its compact size, unusual engineering, and late-war camouflage schemes make it a standout addition to any aircraft collection.
