The Bell P-39Q/N Airacobra Eastern Front represents one of the most effective and widely used Allied fighters on the Soviet front during World War II.

While often overlooked in Western service, the Airacobra proved highly successful in the hands of Soviet pilots, particularly in low to medium altitude combat where its performance excelled.

Featuring an unusual design, the P-39 was powered by an Allison engine mounted behind the pilot, driving a propeller via a long shaft.

This layout allowed the aircraft to be armed with a formidable 37mm cannon firing through the nose, supported by additional machine guns, giving it devastating firepower against both aircraft and ground targets.

The Q and N variants introduced improvements in armour, weapon configuration, and overall reliability.

On the Eastern Front, these aircraft were heavily used in ground attack and air superiority roles, becoming a favourite among Soviet aces who valued their ruggedness and firepower.

For modellers, the Airacobra offers a distinctive and historically rich subject.
