Kovozavody Prostejov 1/72 Mikoyan MiG-21MF "Czechoslovak AF" # 72084
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21MF represented one of the most advanced and capable variants of the famous MiG-21 family, embodying the peak of second-generation Soviet fighter design.
The “MF” (Modernizirovannyy – Modernised, Forsirovannyy – Uprated) version introduced significant upgrades in radar, avionics, and engine performance, giving the aircraft a new edge in both air-to-air and ground-attack roles.
Delivered to the Czechoslovak Air Force in the early 1970s, the MiG-21MF became the backbone of the nation’s fighter fleet for over two decades.
Operated from airbases such as Čáslav, Žatec, and Bechyně, the aircraft served in both frontline and training roles, providing reliable air defence under the Warsaw Pact structure.
Its compact delta-wing design, coupled with the powerful Tumansky R-13-300 turbojet, enabled speeds exceeding Mach 2, while improved radar and missile capability made it a formidable opponent in Central Europe’s tense Cold War skies.
Czechoslovak MiG-21MFs were noted for their distinctive camouflage schemes — ranging from natural metal finishes to striking two-tone greens and browns — and national roundels proudly displayed on the fuselage and wings.
Many were later upgraded to extend service life well into the 1990s before being replaced by more modern aircraft following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
The MiG-21MF “Czechoslovak Air Force” remains a symbol of an era when speed, simplicity, and sheer pilot skill defined aerial combat.
