The Heinkel He-178V-2 was an experimental German aircraft developed as part of the pioneering jet propulsion programme led by Ernst Heinkel before the Second World War.

As an advanced development of the groundbreaking He 178 prototype — recognised as the world’s first turbojet-powered aircraft to achieve flight — the V-2 represented an important step in the evolution of early jet aviation technology.

Designed with a more refined airframe and improved aerodynamic characteristics, the He-178V-2 was intended to further explore the potential of jet-powered flight at a time when piston-engine aircraft still dominated military aviation.

Although the aircraft never entered full production, the experimental work carried out on the He 178 programme laid vital foundations for future jet fighters and high-speed aircraft developments.

Compact, historically significant, and ahead of its time, the Heinkel He-178V-2 remains an iconic milestone in aviation history.
