The V-100 Commando armoured car fitted with the XM-174 grenade launcher represents a specialised internal security and counter-insurgency configuration of a highly versatile light armoured vehicle.
Developed by Cadillac Gage, the V-100 was widely deployed by military and security forces during the Cold War era, particularly in urban and convoy protection roles.
This variant is equipped with the XM‑174, a belt-fed 40 mm automatic grenade launcher designed to provide high-volume suppressive fire against infantry and lightly protected positions.
Mounted within the vehicle’s turret or weapon station, the XM-174 significantly enhances the V-100’s firepower while maintaining crew protection within the armoured hull.
The V-100 Commando features a fully enclosed, wheeled armoured chassis offering protection against small-arms fire and shell fragments.
Its compact size, high mobility, and relatively low maintenance requirements made it well suited for patrol, escort, and internal security operations.
The addition of the grenade launcher allows the vehicle to deliver effective area fire while remaining mobile and protected.
This configuration reflects the evolving tactical requirements of the 1960s and 1970s, where armoured vehicles were increasingly adapted for urban warfare, peacekeeping, and counter-insurgency missions.
