Hobby 2000 1/72 Consolidated PBY-3 Catalina Academy + Cartograf + Masks # 72083
The Consolidated PBY-3 Catalina stands as one of the most iconic flying boats of the interwar and Second World War era.
Introduced in the late 1930s, the PBY-3 featured improved Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engines and refined structural updates that enhanced reliability on long-range patrol missions over vast ocean expanses.
Renowned for its endurance, versatility, and ability to operate from remote island outposts or sheltered bays, the Catalina served in multiple roles including maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare, reconnaissance, search-and-rescue, and convoy escort.
Its distinctive high-wing layout, retractable wingtip floats, and spacious hull made it ideal for extended missions far from home bases.
The PBY-3 was flown by the U.S. Navy and several Allied nations in the early years of World War II.
Although later overshadowed by more advanced variants, it played a crucial part in early Pacific operations and coastal defence, including the detection of enemy ships and submarines.
For modellers, the Catalina offers a wealth of visual interest: large wingspan, multi-crew cockpit, open gun positions, and weathered naval finishes that look superb on display.
Key Features:

- Served in patrol, reconnaissance, and rescue roles across the Pacific and Atlantic
