The Avia Ba.122 was a Czechoslovak single-seat aerobatic aircraft developed in the mid-1930s by Avia specifically for international competition flying.

The aircraft OK-AWE achieved lasting fame when it represented Czechoslovakia at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, where aerobatics featured as a demonstration aviation sport.

Designed for precision and agility rather than combat, the Ba.122 featured a compact biplane layout, a lightweight structure, and exceptionally clean aerodynamics for its class.

Powered by a reliable inline piston engine, it offered outstanding responsiveness, allowing pilots to perform complex figures with remarkable accuracy and smoothness—qualities that impressed judges and spectators alike.

Flown by leading Czechoslovak aerobatic pilots, OK-AWE helped showcase the advanced state of the nation’s aviation engineering.

The aircraft’s performance at Berlin reinforced Czechoslovakia’s reputation as a world leader in aerobatic aircraft design during the interwar period.

Finished in a striking pre-war civil colour scheme with the registration OK-AWE, the Avia Ba.122 from Berlin 1936 remains an iconic symbol of 1930s competitive aerobatics, combining elegant design with national prestige.

It is a particularly attractive subject for modellers interested in interwar aviation, civil markings, and aerobatic history.
