The Messerschmitt Bf-109G-12 was a rare and unique two-seat trainer version of Germany’s most prolific fighter, adapted from the G-4 variant of the famous “Gustav” series.

With the war intensifying and pilot attrition increasing, the Luftwaffe urgently needed effective conversion trainers to prepare new pilots for frontline duty in high-performance aircraft.

The result was the G-12—a modified Bf-109 with dual controls and a lengthened canopy to accommodate both instructor and trainee.

Based on the G-4 airframe, the Bf-109G-12 retained many of its predecessor's features, including the DB 605A engine, robust fuselage, and radio/navigation systems, while incorporating a second cockpit and redesigned canopy.

To maintain balance and handling, armament was typically reduced or removed, though some field conversions retained machine guns for training in combat tactics.

Despite its unusual appearance, the G-12 played a critical role behind the scenes, helping novice pilots transition from trainers like the Bücker Bü 131 or Arado Ar 96 to the unforgiving Bf-109.

Only a small number were produced, making them a fascinating footnote in the 109’s long and varied history.

This highly detailed kit includes finely molded fuselage parts with the extended tandem cockpit, optional open canopy sections, and decal choices for training units operating late in the war.

A must-have for collectors and modelers looking to complete the full evolution of the Bf-109.
