Takom 1/35 Israeli Army M51 "Degem Alef" Medium Tank # 02208
The Israeli Army M51 “Degem Alef” Medium Tank was one of the most powerful and distinctive upgrades of the famous Sherman tank family.
Developed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the M51 was designed to counter increasingly modern Soviet-supplied armour in the Middle East while making use of the large numbers of Sherman tanks already in Israeli service.
The most notable feature of the M51 was its powerful 105 mm CN-105-F1 gun, adapted from a French design, which provided the tank with significantly improved anti-armour capability.
To accommodate the larger gun, the turret was modified with an extended counterweight at the rear, giving the vehicle its distinctive appearance.
Additional improvements included upgraded suspension components, a redesigned mantlet, and various external stowage arrangements suited for desert operations.
Often referred to as the “Super Sherman,” the M51 proved highly effective in combat and served with distinction during conflicts such as the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973).
Its combination of upgraded firepower and the reliable Sherman chassis demonstrated the remarkable adaptability of this legendary tank design.
