The USMC LAV-C2 (Command and Control) is a specialised variant of the Light Armored Vehicle family used by the United States Marine Corps, designed to provide battlefield command, communications, and coordination capabilities for forward units.
Based on the same 8×8 wheeled chassis as other LAV variants, it combines mobility and protection with advanced communication systems to support modern combat operations.
Unlike heavily armed versions of the LAV, the C2 variant is focused on its role as a mobile command post.
The turret is typically removed or reduced, allowing space for additional radios, communication equipment, mapping systems, and workstations used by commanders and staff.
This enables real-time coordination of manoeuvre, fire support, and intelligence across the battlefield.
The LAV-C2 retains the high mobility of the LAV family, capable of rapid deployment over long distances and across varied terrain.
Its amphibious capability allows it to operate in coastal and riverine environments, making it particularly well-suited to the expeditionary nature of Marine Corps operations.
Crewed by a small team of specialists, the vehicle serves as a vital link between frontline units and higher command, ensuring effective communication and control during fast-moving operations.
