The Antonov An-30B is a specialised aerial survey and reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Antonov An-24 transport platform.
Designed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the 1970s, the aircraft was created primarily for aerial photography, mapping and observation missions, providing detailed geographic and reconnaissance data.
The most distinctive feature of the An-30B is its heavily glazed nose section, which houses advanced optical equipment and observation stations used for aerial survey work.
The aircraft is equipped with multiple high-resolution cameras and sensors mounted in the fuselage, allowing it to conduct mapping operations, environmental monitoring and military reconnaissance missions.
Its high-wing configuration and stable flight characteristics make it particularly well suited to low-speed, precision flight required for photographic operations.
Powered by two turboprop engines, the An-30B offers reliable performance and the ability to operate from relatively short or austere airfields.
Over the years it has been used by several countries for cartography, border monitoring and aerial observation duties.
The Ukrainian Air Force continues to operate the An-30B in roles including aerial reconnaissance, mapping and observation missions.
With its distinctive glazed cockpit nose and specialised equipment, the Antonov An-30B stands out as a unique and interesting aircraft within the Antonov family, making it an appealing subject for aviation enthusiasts and scale modelling collectors alike.
