The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX UTI represents a rare two-seat training version of the famous British fighter adapted for use by the Soviet Air Force.

During the later stages of the Second World War, the Soviet Union received a number of Spitfire Mk.IX aircraft through Allied cooperation and Lend-Lease arrangements.

These aircraft were primarily used for air defence duties and for evaluating Western fighter technology.

The UTI designation refers to a two-seat training configuration, in which a second cockpit was installed behind the pilot’s position.

This allowed instructors to train new pilots on the aircraft’s handling characteristics while providing full dual controls.
