The Aero L-159A/E ALCA (Advanced Light Combat Aircraft) represents the evolution of the Czech Republic’s proud jet-trainer lineage, combining the proven heritage of the L-39 Albatros with modern Western technology and NATO-standard systems.

Developed by Aero Vodochody during the late 1990s, the L-159A was designed as a multi-role light combat aircraft capable of performing air-to-ground, reconnaissance, and limited air-to-air missions with remarkable efficiency and low operating costs.

Powered by the Honeywell/ITEC F124-GA-100 turbofan, the ALCA offers high thrust, reliability, and low maintenance demands.

Its fully digital cockpit includes multi-function colour displays, HUD, and HOTAS controls, while a MIL-STD-1553 databus ensures full interoperability with NATO weapons and avionics.

The L-159A single-seat version entered service with the Czech Air Force in 2000, replacing older Soviet-era aircraft and serving in both combat and training roles.

The L-159E variant was later developed for export and private adversary training, featuring upgraded avionics and compatibility with Western training systems.

Exported examples have been used by the Iraqi Air Force and Draken International (USA), where they continue to serve as reliable, agile aggressor aircraft.
