RS Models 1/72 Henschel Hs-132C # 92173
The Henschel Hs 132C was a projected variant of Germany’s innovative jet-powered dive bomber, developed late in the Second World War by Henschel.
The Henschel Hs 132 itself was a highly unusual design, created in response to the need for faster, more survivable ground-attack aircraft capable of penetrating increasingly effective Allied air defences.
The Hs 132C variant was planned as an improved development featuring heavier armament and potentially enhanced performance.
Like other versions in the series, it retained the aircraft’s distinctive configuration, with the pilot positioned in a prone (lying down) position.
This layout was intended to help the pilot withstand the high g-forces experienced during steep dive-bombing attacks, while also reducing the aircraft’s frontal profile.
Powered by a jet engine mounted above the fuselage, the Hs 132 was designed to achieve high speeds for its role.
The C variant was expected to carry a bomb load internally or semi-recessed beneath the fuselage, allowing it to strike ground or naval targets with greater effectiveness while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency.
However, the Hs 132 programme never reached operational service.
Development was disrupted by the deteriorating war situation, and although prototypes of earlier variants were under construction, the project was overtaken by events before it could be fully realised.
The Henschel Hs 132C remains an example of late-war German experimental aviation, reflecting both innovative thinking and the increasing desperation to field advanced weapon systems in the final stages of the conflict.
