The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7/B was a fighter-bomber development of the successful “Emil” series, produced by Messerschmitt during the early years of the Second World War.

Designed to expand the versatility of the Bf 109, this variant combined the type’s proven fighter performance with the ability to carry out ground-attack missions.

A key feature of the E-7 series was the addition of a centreline rack, allowing the aircraft to carry either a drop tank for extended range or a bomb load for strike operations.

The “/B” designation indicated its role as a fighter-bomber, capable of delivering ordnance against ground targets before returning to air combat duties if required.

The Bf 109E-7/B saw service with the Luftwaffe across multiple theatres, including the later stages of the Battle of Britain and in the North African campaign.

Its ability to operate over longer distances and perform dual roles made it particularly valuable in environments where flexibility was essential.
