The Dornier Do 17K (Late Version) was an export variant of Germany’s fast twin-engine bomber, developed in the late 1930s by Dornier Flugzeugwerke. Based on the well-known Dornier Do 17 “Flying Pencil,” the K-series was specifically tailored for foreign customers, with Yugoslavia being its primary operator.

The late version of the Do 17K featured improved engines—typically licence-built Gnome-Rhône radial engines—along with refined equipment and defensive armament compared to earlier export models.

It retained the Do 17’s distinctive slim fuselage and glazed nose section, which provided excellent visibility for the crew during bombing and reconnaissance missions.

Designed as a light bomber, the Do 17K was capable of carrying a moderate bomb load while maintaining relatively high speed for its class, making it difficult to intercept during its early service years.

Yugoslav-operated aircraft saw action during the Invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941, where they were used in both bombing and reconnaissance roles against advancing Axis forces.

Although quickly outclassed as the war progressed, the Dornier Do 17K (Late Version) represents an important chapter in pre-war aircraft exports and highlights how German aviation technology was adapted for international use.

Its sleek design and operational history make it a notable variant within the Do 17 family.
