The Douglas C-47A Skytrain, known affectionately in Poland as the “Dakota,” served as a vital transport aircraft for the Polish Air Force in the years following the Second World War.
Derived from the legendary DC-3 airliner, the C-47A offered exceptional reliability, rugged construction, and superb short-field performance.
Polish crews used the Dakota for troop transport, supply missions, medical evacuation, and training, making it an indispensable workhorse during a period of rebuilding and modernisation.
Its distinctive silhouette and long service life earned it a respected place in Polish aviation history as one of the most dependable aircraft of its era.
