The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I (Early) represents the first operational form of Britain’s most iconic fighter, entering service just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
Featuring the original two-blade wooden propeller, fabric-covered ailerons, and early-style canopy and radio mast, this variant showcased the clean aerodynamic lines that would define the Spitfire family.
Powered by the Merlin II or III engine, the early Mk.I delivered excellent speed, agility, and climb — qualities that soon proved vital during the Battle of Britain.
As one of the RAF’s earliest frontline fighters, the Mk.I (Early) marks the beginning of the Spitfire’s legendary wartime career.
