The Zlín Z-43 is a four-seat light aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia during the late 1960s by the renowned manufacturer Moravan Otrokovice.

Designed as part of the successful Zlín Tréner family, the Z-43 combined robust construction, excellent handling, and straightforward maintenance — qualities that made it a popular choice for training, touring, and utility duties across Eastern Europe and beyond.

Derived from the two-seat Zlín Z-42, the Z-43 featured an enlarged cabin with four side-by-side seats, improved visibility, and an increased wingspan for better stability and range.

It was powered by the reliable Avia M-337 six-cylinder inverted inline engine, delivering 210 horsepower and enabling a top speed of around 220 km/h (137 mph).

The aircraft’s rugged all-metal construction and docile flight characteristics made it well suited to both civil aviation clubs and military flying schools, where it was used for navigation training, liaison, and observation tasks.

Many examples were exported throughout the Eastern Bloc, Africa, and Asia, where they served in both civilian and government roles.

Even decades later, the Zlín Z-43 remains admired for its graceful lines, solid engineering, and easy handling — a classic example of Czechoslovak aeronautical craftsmanship that continues to fly in private hands around the world.
