The IAR.80B was an improved variant of Romania’s indigenously designed IAR.80 series, serving as one of the country’s main fighters during the early years of the Second World War.
Built by Industria Aeronautică Română, the 80B featured strengthened wings, upgraded armament, and provisions for underwing bombs, giving it both fighter and light-attack capability.
Powered by a licence-built radial engine, it offered good manoeuvrability and solid performance at low to medium altitudes.
The IAR.80B saw action on the Eastern Front, providing air cover, ground-attack support, and escort duties.
Despite being outclassed by newer Allied and Soviet designs later in the war, it remains a proud symbol of Romanian aviation engineering.
