The Rublic R-7 “Racek” (Gull) was a light sport and touring aircraft designed in Czechoslovakia during the interwar period.

Known for its graceful silhouette and excellent low-speed handling, the R-7 became a favourite among flying clubs and private pilots who wanted an aircraft that was both economical to operate and a pleasure to fly.

The “Racek” earned its name thanks to its gull-wing layout, which gave the aircraft improved lift characteristics and a distinctive appearance both on the ground and in the air.

Powered by a small yet reliable piston engine, the R-7 offered steady cruising performance, making it ideal for training, short-distance touring, and general aviation duties.

Despite being produced in limited numbers, the R-7 developed a loyal following and is remembered today as a fine example of early Czechoslovak aeronautical design — simple, elegant, and highly functional.

For modellers, the Rublic R-7 “Racek” provides a charming and unusual subject.

The aircraft’s curved gull wing, slender fuselage, and classic 1930s styling make it a standout addition to any collection, especially for enthusiasts of civil or pre-war aviation.
