First To Fight Kits 1/72 10,5cm leFH 18 German Field Howitzer # 037
The 10.5 cm leFH 18 (leichte Feldhaubitze 18) was the standard light field howitzer of the Wehrmacht and one of the most widely used artillery pieces of the Second World War.
Designed to provide reliable and flexible fire support, it formed the backbone of German divisional artillery throughout the conflict.
Firing 105mm high-explosive shells, the leFH 18 was capable of both direct and indirect fire, making it effective against a wide range of targets including infantry formations, fortifications, and artillery positions.
Its relatively long range and good accuracy allowed it to support troops from a safe distance while delivering substantial firepower.
The howitzer featured a robust split-trail carriage, which improved stability and allowed for a wider traverse compared to earlier designs.
Its hydro-pneumatic recoil system ensured consistent firing performance, while a protective shield offered the crew some defence against small arms fire and shell fragments.
Although heavier than some comparable guns, the leFH 18 could be towed by horses or motorised vehicles, depending on the unit.
This gave it a balance between mobility and firepower, though it could be more difficult to reposition quickly in challenging terrain.
Operated by a trained crew, the leFH 18 required coordinated effort for aiming, loading, and firing.
When deployed effectively, it provided sustained and accurate artillery support—an essential element of German battlefield tactics.
Used extensively in campaigns from Poland and France to the Eastern Front, the 10.5 cm leFH 18 proved to be a reliable and effective weapon throughout the war.
Today, it is remembered as a classic example of a well-designed field howitzer—combining power, durability, and versatility in a single, widely used artillery system.
