First To Fight Kits 1/72 Krupp-Protze Kfz.69 # 051
The Krupp-Protze Kfz.69 (L2H143) was a specialised light artillery tractor developed by Krupp in the 1930s for use by the Wehrmacht.
Designed to combine mobility, simplicity, and versatility, it became one of the most recognisable German military trucks of the early Second World War.
Featuring a distinctive 6×4 configuration, the Kfz.69 used an air-cooled flat-four engine mounted at the front, giving it a low profile and improving reliability by reducing the need for complex cooling systems.
Its independent suspension provided relatively good off-road performance for a wheeled vehicle, allowing it to operate effectively in varied terrain.
The primary role of the Kfz.69 was to tow light anti-tank guns, most notably the PaK 36.
In addition to towing, it could carry the gun crew and ammunition on bench seats in the rear, making it a compact and efficient support vehicle for anti-tank units.
Unarmoured but robust, the Kfz.69 was valued for its dependability and ease of maintenance.
It was capable of keeping pace with advancing units and was widely used in early campaigns such as Poland and France, where mobility and rapid deployment were key.
Despite its strengths, the 6×4 layout limited performance in very rough or muddy conditions compared to halftrack vehicles.
As the war progressed, it was gradually supplemented by more capable transport solutions, though it remained in service in various roles.
Today, the Krupp-Protze Kfz.69 is remembered as a practical and effective artillery tractor—an important part of Germany’s early-war mobility and anti-tank capability.
