The Kfz.14 German Armoured Radio Car (Funkkraftwagen) was a specialised communications vehicle developed in the early 1930s to support the growing need for reliable battlefield coordination within the Wehrmacht.

Closely related to the Kfz.13 Maschinengewehrkraftwagen, it was built on the same Adler Standard 6 chassis but adapted for radio and liaison duties rather than combat.

Instead of a primary armament, the Kfz.14 was equipped with radio equipment to maintain communication between units, commanders, and headquarters.

Its most recognisable feature was the large frame antenna mounted around the vehicle, which allowed for extended communication range—an essential capability in fast-moving operations.

Like the Kfz.13, the Kfz.14 was lightly armoured and open-topped, providing only basic protection against small arms fire and shrapnel.

Its civilian-derived chassis offered good road speed, making it effective for liaison and command support roles, although its off-road capability was limited compared to later purpose-built military vehicles.

In service, the Kfz.14 played an important role during early campaigns such as the invasion of Poland, where effective communication was critical to coordinating infantry, armour, and artillery.

While not a frontline combat vehicle, it contributed significantly to the efficiency of German operations by ensuring that orders and information could be transmitted quickly.

As the war progressed, the Kfz.14 was gradually replaced by more advanced and better-protected communications vehicles.

Today, it is remembered as an early and important step in the development of mobile military communications—highlighting the growing importance of radio technology in modern warfare.
