First To Fight Kits 1/72 Polish 7TP Double Turret Polish Light Tank # 032
The Polish 7TP Double Turret Light Tank was an early variant of Poland’s domestically developed light tank, derived from the British Vickers 6-Ton tank design.
This version retained the original twin-turret configuration, with two small turrets mounted side by side, each armed with a 7.92mm machine gun.
Designed primarily for infantry support, the twin-turret layout allowed the 7TP to engage multiple targets simultaneously, making it effective against dispersed enemy infantry and soft targets.
However, like similar designs of the period, this configuration limited its ability to concentrate firepower on a single target and offered little capability against armoured vehicles.
The 7TP introduced several improvements over the original Vickers design, including better armour and the use of a diesel engine—an uncommon and forward-thinking feature at the time. This reduced the risk of fire and improved operational efficiency.
Despite these advancements, the twin-turret version was quickly recognised as less effective in evolving combat conditions.
As armoured warfare developed, the need for more powerful, focused firepower led to the adoption of the single-turret variant, armed with a 37mm Bofors gun.
This version became the standard production model and saw the majority of combat use during the 1939 campaign.
Only a limited number of 7TP double turret tanks were produced, and they were gradually phased out in favour of the more capable single-turret design.
Nevertheless, they represent an important transitional stage in Polish tank development.
Today, the Polish 7TP Double Turret Light Tank is remembered as an experimental and transitional design—bridging early interwar concepts and the more effective single-turret tanks that followed.
