First To Fight Kits 1/72 3,7cm PaK 36 German Anti Tank Gun With Crew # 022
The 3.7 cm PaK 36 German Anti-Tank Gun (with crew) was the standard light anti-tank weapon of the Wehrmacht during the early stages of the Second World War.
Compact, mobile, and easy to operate, it formed the backbone of German anti-armour defences during campaigns such as Poland and France.
Firing 37mm armour-piercing rounds, the PaK 36 was effective against the lightly armoured tanks of the late 1930s.
Its low profile and relatively light weight allowed it to be easily concealed and repositioned by its crew, making it well-suited for ambush tactics and defensive positions.
The gun was protected by a small shield, offering limited defence against small arms fire and shrapnel.
Typically operated by a crew of several soldiers, each member had a specific role, including gunner, loader, commander, and ammunition handlers.
Efficient teamwork allowed the PaK 36 to achieve a steady rate of fire, which was crucial when engaging multiple targets or fast-moving enemy vehicles.
As the war progressed and enemy tanks became more heavily armoured, the limitations of the PaK 36 became increasingly apparent.
It struggled to penetrate thicker armour, earning it the nickname “door knocker” among German troops.
Despite this, it remained in service, sometimes using specialised ammunition such as shaped-charge rounds to improve its effectiveness.
Eventually, the PaK 36 was supplemented and replaced by more powerful anti-tank guns, but it remained an important early-war weapon.
Today, it is remembered as a key component of Germany’s initial anti-tank capability—highlighting both the strengths and rapid obsolescence of early-war anti-armour technology.
