First To Fight Kits 1/72 Pz.Kpfw. 35 German Light Tank # 038
The Pz.Kpfw. 35(t) was a light tank used by the Wehrmacht during the early years of the Second World War.
Originally designed and built in Czechoslovakia as the LT vz.35 by Škoda Works, it was taken into German service following the occupation of Czechoslovakia and redesignated with the “(t)” suffix, indicating its Czech origin (tschechisch).
Armed with a 37mm main gun and supported by machine guns, the Panzer 35(t) was well-equipped for early-war combat, capable of engaging lightly armoured vehicles and infantry targets effectively.
Its armour provided basic protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, though it was relatively thin by later wartime standards.
The tank featured a distinctive suspension system with large road wheels and leaf springs, which provided good mobility over rough terrain.
Powered by a reliable engine, it offered solid performance for its time, allowing it to operate effectively alongside German armoured units during fast-moving operations.
In service, the Panzer 35(t) was used extensively in the invasions of Poland and France, where it formed a significant part of German armoured strength.
It was particularly valued for its reliability and firepower during these early campaigns. However, as the war progressed and more heavily armoured enemy tanks appeared, its limitations became increasingly apparent.
Mechanical complexity, particularly in its pneumatic control systems, also led to reliability issues in harsh conditions, especially on the Eastern Front. As a result, the Panzer 35(t) was gradually withdrawn from frontline service and replaced by more advanced German tank designs.
Today, the Pz.Kpfw. 35(t) is remembered as an important early-war vehicle—demonstrating how captured and repurposed equipment contributed to Germany’s initial armoured capabilities and early battlefield successes.
