First To Fight Kits 1/72 Polish Bofors 40mm Anti-Aircraft Gun # 036
The Polish Bofors 40mm Anti-Aircraft Gun was one of the most effective and widely respected air defence weapons of the Second World War.
Designed by the Swedish company Bofors and produced under licence in Poland, it became a cornerstone of Polish anti-aircraft defence in the late 1930s.
Firing 40mm high-explosive shells at a high rate, the Bofors gun was specifically designed to engage low- to medium-altitude aircraft.
Its combination of accuracy, range, and rate of fire made it exceptionally effective against fast-moving aerial targets, and it quickly earned a reputation as one of the best anti-aircraft guns of its class.
The gun was mounted on a mobile carriage, allowing it to be towed and deployed where needed.
Once in position, it could be rapidly set up and brought into action, making it highly adaptable to changing battlefield conditions.
Advanced sights and fire-control systems for the time allowed crews to track and engage aircraft with impressive precision.
Operated by a trained crew, the Bofors 40mm required coordination to maintain its rate of fire and accuracy.
In addition to its primary anti-aircraft role, it could also be used effectively against ground targets, including infantry and lightly armoured vehicles, thanks to its powerful and rapid-firing shells.
During the 1939 campaign, Polish forces used the Bofors 40mm Anti-Aircraft Gun to defend key positions and infrastructure from air attack.
Despite being outnumbered, these guns proved highly effective when properly deployed.
The design was so successful that it was adopted and used by numerous countries throughout the war and beyond.
Today, the Bofors 40mm Anti-Aircraft Gun is regarded as one of the most iconic and successful air defence weapons ever produced—an enduring example of effective engineering and battlefield performance.
