The Sd.Kfz.223 German Armoured Radio Car was a specialised reconnaissance and communications vehicle used by the Wehrmacht during the early and mid-stages of the Second World War.

Despite sometimes being mistaken for a half-track, the Sd.Kfz.223 was actually a four-wheeled armoured car, designed to operate alongside other light reconnaissance vehicles.

Closely related to the Sd.Kfz.221 and Sd.Kfz.222, the Sd.Kfz.223 was specifically adapted for radio communication duties.

Its most recognisable feature was the large frame antenna mounted above the hull, which allowed for long-range radio transmission—essential for maintaining contact between reconnaissance units and command elements.

The vehicle was lightly armoured, offering protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, and was typically armed with a single machine gun for self-defence.

Its compact size and good road speed made it well-suited for scouting, liaison, and communication roles, though its off-road performance was more limited compared to tracked or half-track vehicles.
