The Bofors 37mm Anti-Tank Gun with Uhlans Crew represents a key element of Poland’s anti-armour defence during the early stages of the Second World War, combining an effective modern weapon with the tradition of Poland’s famed cavalry units.

Designed by Bofors and produced in Poland as the wz.36, this gun was widely deployed across infantry and cavalry formations alike.

The term Uhlans refers to Polish light cavalry units, historically known for their mobility and distinctive uniforms.

By 1939, these units were fully modernised and often operated with a mix of horses, vehicles, and modern weapons, including anti-tank guns like the Bofors 37mm.

Far from outdated, Uhlans were trained to fight as mobile infantry, using speed and flexibility to respond to rapidly changing battlefield conditions.

The Bofors 37mm gun fired high-velocity armour-piercing rounds capable of penetrating the armour of early German tanks such as the Panzer I and Panzer II.
