The 7.5 cm leIG 18 (leichte Infanteriegeschütz 18) on DS wheels was a standard German light infantry support gun adapted with disc steel (DS) wheels, replacing the earlier spoked wooden wheels.

This modification reflected the increasing mechanisation of the Wehrmacht, allowing the gun to be towed more effectively by motor vehicles rather than relying solely on horse traction.

Firing 75mm high-explosive shells, the leIG 18 was designed to provide close-range fire support to infantry units.

It could engage enemy positions such as bunkers, trenches, and machine gun nests using both direct and high-angle indirect fire.

Its relatively low muzzle velocity made it particularly effective for firing in a high trajectory, ideal for hitting targets behind cover.

The introduction of disc steel wheels improved durability and performance on roads, especially at higher towing speeds.

This made the weapon more suitable for fast-moving operations, where artillery needed to keep pace with advancing troops.

Despite this improvement, the gun retained its relatively lightweight construction, allowing it to be repositioned by its crew when necessary.
