The Vickers 6-Ton Mk. E (Single Turret), often referred to as the Type B variant, was a significant evolution of the original design developed by Vickers-Armstrongs in the late 1920s.

Moving away from the earlier twin-turret concept, this version featured a single, larger turret capable of mounting more powerful armament—marking an important step toward modern tank design.

Typically armed with a medium-calibre gun (often a 47mm) alongside a coaxial machine gun, the single-turret Vickers offered far greater versatility than its predecessor.

This configuration allowed the tank to effectively engage both infantry and lightly armoured vehicles, concentrating its firepower where needed—something the twin-turret version struggled to achieve.

The tank maintained the strengths of the original design, including mechanical simplicity, reliability, and good mobility.

Its relatively lightweight construction and dependable engine made it suitable for a wide range of operational environments, while also keeping production and maintenance straightforward.

The single-turret Vickers 6-Ton proved highly influential internationally. It was exported to numerous countries and served as the basis for several indigenous tank designs.

In Poland, it directly inspired the development of the 7TP tank, which incorporated further improvements such as better armour, a diesel engine, and enhanced optics.

As armoured warfare evolved, the single-turret layout became the standard for tanks worldwide, rendering the earlier twin-turret concept obsolete.

Today, the Vickers 6-Ton Mk. E (Single Turret) is remembered as a pivotal design—helping to shape the transition toward more capable and balanced light tanks in the interwar period.
