The C4P Polish Artillery Tractor (Early Production) was one of the first domestically developed halftrack vehicles designed to meet the Polish Army’s growing need for reliable, all-terrain artillery transport during the 1930s.

Manufactured by Państwowe Zakłady Inżynierii, the early production C4P laid the foundation for later refinements of this important support vehicle.

Built using components from the Polski Fiat 621, the C4P combined a conventional front axle with tracked rear propulsion.

This halftrack configuration significantly improved traction over soft ground, mud, and uneven terrain—conditions where standard wheeled trucks often struggled—making it especially valuable for towing artillery in challenging environments.

The early production models featured a relatively simple, open-bodied design with bench seating for crew members and space for equipment or ammunition.

While lacking armour, the vehicle prioritised functionality, offering dependable performance and ease of maintenance.

It was primarily used to tow field guns such as the 75mm Schneider field gun and the 100mm wz. 14/19 howitzer.

Although the early version had some limitations—particularly in refinement and driver comfort—it proved to be an effective solution for artillery mobility.

Later production models would introduce incremental improvements in reliability and usability based on operational experience.

During the 1939 campaign, early production C4P tractors played a key role in keeping Polish artillery units mobile, enabling guns to be deployed, repositioned, and withdrawn as needed under difficult combat conditions.

Today, the C4P Early Production variant is remembered as a crucial step in Poland’s mechanisation efforts—demonstrating a practical and innovative approach to solving the challenges of artillery transport in the interwar period.
