First To Fight Kits 1/72 Flak-30 Anti-Aircraft Guns # 035
The Flak 30 20mm Anti-Aircraft Gun was a widely used light anti-aircraft weapon developed in Germany during the interwar period and fielded extensively by the Wehrmacht in the early years of the Second World War.
Designed to provide mobile air defence for ground forces, it became a key component of German anti-aircraft units during campaigns such as Poland and France.
Chambered for 20mm ammunition, the Flak 30 was capable of a high rate of fire, making it effective against low-flying aircraft.
Its relatively lightweight design allowed it to be easily transported and quickly deployed, either mounted on a wheeled carriage or fitted to vehicles for increased mobility.
This flexibility made it particularly valuable in supporting fast-moving armoured and infantry units.
In addition to its anti-aircraft role, the Flak 30 was frequently used against ground targets.
Its rapid-fire capability proved highly effective against infantry, unarmoured vehicles, and lightly armoured targets, giving it a dual-purpose function on the battlefield.
However, it did have some limitations, including a tendency to jam under sustained fire, which led to the development of the improved Flak 38.
Operated by a small crew, the Flak 30 required coordination to maintain ammunition supply and target tracking, but when used effectively, it provided a strong defensive capability against aerial threats.
It could also be mounted on naval vessels and static defensive positions, further extending its utility.
Today, the Flak 30 is remembered as one of the early standard light anti-aircraft guns of the war—an important stepping stone in the evolution of rapid-fire air defence weapons, and a symbol of the increasing importance of anti-aircraft protection in modern warfare.
